Park Pastre (157 Ave de Montredon, 13008 Marseille — on the 19 bus route) is one of my favorites. As Amy said above, there’s a great ropes course for kids 5 and up (Pastre Adventure), as well as tons of open space for picnics, 2 nice playgrounds, an equestrian center, a small carrousel, a jolly jumper (inflatable bouncy castle), walking paths, and probably lots of other treasures I haven’t discovered yet.

I also like Longchamps Park in Marseille (Longchamps metro and tram stops). There’s a kids’ theater (Theater of the Giraffe), a small carrousel, two playgrounds, a small waterfall, and pony rides on weekends and Wednesdays. In addition to the traditional pony rides, they have a cart-and-pony option for the younger kids.

The park at Fort St. Jean (on the 83 bus route), near the Vieux Port in Marseille is also a nice one. It’s very simple: just a playground and some grassy area, but the view of the water is spectacular. Similarly, the park on the other side of the Vieux Port at the Pharo (near the historic building) has a magnificent view of the city and the water — a great photo opp for the kids! It’s also on the 83 bus route, in the opposite direction from Fort St. Jean.

Even though it’s not specifically designed for kids I love the enormous Parc du Mugel at La Ciotat. It has an amazing variety of plants, even a bamboo forest. There are all sorts of little pathways and an garden of exotic plants and of aromatic plants. I love showing my son all the different kinds of plants. Plus the views are amazing. Well worth the trip.

    Some favourite parks:

Parc Georges Vilers, Avenue St John Perse, Jas de Bouffan, Aix en Provence
    04 42 93 70 00
At the heart of Jas de Bouffan, this 5 hectare park has an area for children to play.

Parc St Mitre, Avenue Jean Monet, Route de Berre, Aix en Provence
Open 9am to 30minutes before dusk (whenever THAT is)
    04 42 93 70 00
This park has lovely walks through the trees, a big meadow, a planetarium, a fish pond, jungle gyms, and even a puppet theatre. Plus it’s really easy to find parking.

Please feel free to add your favourites below.

At the entrance to the absolutley magnificent Montredon Park in Marseille is the Pastre forest adventure park, where children from 5 – 14 years can participate in ‘forest workshops’ (in other word monkey around in the trees!)
