I have just moved back to Marseille after 5 years in the US. I would love my kids (3 and 6) who speak French, English and Spanish to keep speaking English. So I am looking for playgroups or English speaking families to organize play dates. Please advise. Thanks!

Are you still living in Marseille? I’ve recently moved here, I’m also looking for English-speaking families/playdates. I speak English to my daughter and would very much like her to meet English-speaking children. As it turns out, our daughters are the same age. If you’d be interested to meet in the upcoming weeks, feel free to contact me 🙂

    HI there.
My Name is Nic, an expecting mum living in Aix. I have been in France for 2 years and find it still very very hard to find contact to the locals, especially since I work from home.
I just came across your page and was wondering if anyone is up for a cup of coffee in town (or anything, really) these days. I am due these days (first baby), but I have been ‘stuck at home’ for weeks now and a bit of human contact would be real nice… and if not now-ish, how about in a couple of weeks when I am comfortable to enjoy the outdoors with my baby?
I would love to find some people to chat with. I am originally from Germany, but have lived for years in the US, Australia and Scotland… and having been a nanny, I am more than comfortable with older kids as well.
Hope to hear back from you… X Nic*

Hello, my name is Desi. I’m Indonesian. I’ve been living in Marseille for 9 years. My husband is French. I work as Assistante Maternelle (private nursery). I have a 4 and half years old girl. I want her to know that English is important to learn but it’s very difficult as she goes to public school and no body speaks English at school. Since she goes to school, she protests when I speak English. I’ll try many ways to motivate her learn and practice English as in Indonesia, people understand better English than French. I can not enroll her to International school as it’s too far and too expensive. I would be happy if there are some mothers with their children who wants to meet and play with my daughter in English.

We are busy Saturday but would certainly like to meet you in Arles on Friday – I don’t know if anything will be open in the way of cafes as it’s a holiday but we can certainly meet at the playground and venture into town with our fingers crossed! Shall we meet in the morning at the playground and hope that we can find somewhere for lunch? Might bring snacks as well just in case everything is closed! 1030am suit you? With the aim of leaving around 130pm as Eva has a habit of falling asleep in the car if we leave too late which is no good for her night time sleeping! My email address is, best to email me on that and then we can exchange mobile nos and work out if that plan is ok for you or not, depending on your little girl’s preferred sleeping times or other needs!

I’m looking for a playgroup, or would like to put one together for my seven year old son. I’m the American in the family, and the kids only understand English, but struggle to speak. I have an American babysitter for Wednesday mornings (while I work), and would like to know if there are any other families out there with the similar case. I’d like to have my son and babysitter together with two or more sitters with kids between 6 – 8 yrs.
They could get together at my place (Saint Jerome), or at the nearby Parc Jourdan for an hour or so. We are new to Aix (from Paris) and my son doesn’t have any playmates on Wednesday mornings 😦

    Any takers or suggestions?

    • amyfoxwell said,

My kids are too young (2 and 3), but have you looked into the AAGP? They have a playgroup for 3 – 6 year olds, which is probably too still too young, but there are kids parties (Halloween, Easter, etc) you can attend when you are a member and you can meet parents with older children that way (see local info Aix and Marseille page on this blog). Also check at English Bubble in Aix to see what they have going, you can also meet people there too.
Good luck and welcome to Provence. Maybe we will cross paths at an AAGP party.

10 am is perfect timing for my family (+ not too hot and not crowded like in the afternoon) & we’ll be there.
+ …. I never knew how to call it in english/explain the concept to my american friends far away … “rope tower” , yes, very logical name for it …. (one my favorite american english word is “kick stand”, again a very logical name .. whereas in french you have both “le vélo” and “la bicylette” as names for the same object … which doesn’t really NEED to be any gender at all !!!)

  34. amyfoxwell said,

OK, so let’s meet in Parc St Mitre between 10 and 12. Then those that need to get home can, and the rest can stay on if they wish. Bring a picnic and a blanket if you fancy eating on the big lawn. Let’s meet at the playground in the back – the one to the left of the big house, past the toilets and the rope tower (there are normally fewer people there).

Looking forward to seeing you all there.
