    Hello,

    I’m a French native speaker mom with two children (10 and 8) who is currently living in New York upstate. I’m planning to move back to France this year after many years of expatriation in the US. I’m thinking in moving to Aix-en-Provence because of the international communities living there. I thought that the transition would be smoother than living in a local town with no English speaking families. My children barely know France and they have never attended a French school so there level in French is far from being perfect. For those who spent enough time in Aix-en-Provence and its region, please tell me how you feel about this town (friendly ?, English speaking club?, nature, art, music, chinese and Spanish for kids and what you think of those bilingual schools of EPIM and IBS ? Is Luynes close enough to downtown Aix-en-Provence to drive daily to the international school ? Are the teachers very friendly and caring as well as the director ? Any issues with bullying and teasing in those schools ? waht is the ratio student/teacher/class ?. Where is the SAFEST, nicest and most QUIET place to live in Aix-en-Provence with a small budget ? Thank you for all your feedbacks. I appreciate it.

    Thanks for repying Lucy! It would be great to keep in touch- I am doing a lot of research at the moment into exactly where I want to live so would really appreciate your thoughts….I have a friend who comes from Aix but his views on Aix are somewhat biased (!) so it would be great to get an insight from another English person. (hope that’s not too forward!!!) 🙂

      Hi there

      I have a few students which is keeping my hand in the business but i’m so busy with my kids, until my youngest goes to playschool next year I will just stick to the few that i have. I have an english friend who lives near aix en provence (st cannat) and she is too looking into doing a few english lessons for a few locals that have asked her to teach them the basics. I also had an interview for a company in toulon who were looking for teachers using the tomatis method but it is too far from me and public transport isn’t always easy.
      Yes i am english! You will have to keep in touch and let me know when you move it’s only 45 mins from my town.

    Je suis Française. J’habite Trets (22km sud-est d’Aix en Provence) et aimerais savoir si certains et certaines d’entre vous seraient intĂ©ressĂ©s par des ateliers de discussion français/ English destinĂ©s aux ados et prĂ©-ados, ( 9-12 ans). Je serais ravies d’accueillir celles et ceux que cela intĂ©resse, dans une ambiance conviviale( petits gâteaux maison assurĂ©s!!).     It’s always a good indicator of how well you master the language if you get the ‘countable’ nouns right. For example, the French consider hair plural (les cheveux), while the English just say ‘hair’. I have to admit, the French have a point – you can indeed count all the hairs. Although it would take a while. Maybe that’s the more practical side of the English coming out. However I’m not sure I understand the logic of having trousers plural (les pantalons), but jeans singular (le jean).

    And our French friends always get mixed up with the fact that for the English information is never informations and advice is never advices. These are always ‘uncountable’.

    I’ve worked so hard on getting this right in French, now if I could only stop saying I’m going to wash my hairs and put on my jean!

    The AAGP (Anglo-American Group of Provence) has a lovely library of books (children’s and adults), videos and DVDs in English at the Maison des Associations, Pont de l’Arc in Aix en Provence.

    It is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from 9.30 – 11.30.

    Even if you aren’t a member of the AAGP you can still use the library as an associate member for 10€. To do so, come to the library during open hours and enquire of the librarian.
